Stained vs Painted

Team Stained Wood vs Team Painted Wood?

Which are you? I am asked all the time which direction I think my client should go and typically there isn’t a quick answer! I can put together a palette of finishes that will function well for my client and fall right in the middle of their design style, however, in many cases that can happen with both stained or painted finishes.

Often the next question will be something like “how long will painted cabinets be in style?” And man, if I knew the answer to that question, I’d be set! But how about this, are we using the same wood type and stain that we used 20 years ago? Or even 5 years ago? (Answer: nope.) We are even gravitating towards different white tones than where we were  5 years ago! We will never keep our homes up with the newest trends, and that is okay, we weren’t made to keep up. But we can make the best decision for your home and for your style. This decision is not made in a vacuum, there are so many other elements that play into making your entire space fit right where you want it. We can get there, together!

Ok so you still seriously want to know which “will last longer”, I hear you! I will give you a hint … spaces that are well balanced with the correct amount of different finishes tend to stand the test of time longer and it is harder to pinpoint when the project was completed. Swipe through these images and look at the balance of stained and painted finishes and then leave a comment below telling us what team you are on: Team Stain or Team Painted. Or are you now Team Both?!
